Today Butch brings us some strange but true stories from the field. A hair-raising good time will be had by all, guaranteed.

A correction - we were talking in the show on the base minimum that OHP needs to operate I wrongly said $3000 and that would be correct with everything combined (software and equipment) doing the very least that we could do. The correct figure for hosting, websites bandwidth and storage is $1650 yearly just to maintain the space. As you can see this leaves no room for growth, projects or general operating expenses (lights, phone, rent etc.). As you can see we need your help to keep this project going. Any amount will be helpful and you can donate or sign up for a membership, supporter or sponsor on our website or just contact me craiganderson@ourhistoryproject.com .

Our Grant writing will start soon so if you have experience in this process and could either volunteer to write or to review Grants that we write, please let us know. In November we will be on the 50 State National Registry which is required by most Grants.

So, keep your eyes and ears open for us on historical or art related grants.

Monday

Welcome to Our History Project

Today we explore the Men and the Medals. Acts of Heroism and Courage on the Battlefield. We talk to Butch with American Digger Magazine to see if any of these awards have been found and just because its October we throw in some Halloween Tales from the news.

Share our Show

We continue to grow but we still need your help.

Do you know of a history lover? Tell them about us. We need new people on our site and in our forums. The more we have the more funds we can raise to continue the show.

Do you know a History Teacher? Send them our link. We are working hard on a Curriculum to meet State and National Requirements to help you in the classroom.

Do you know of a Museum who would like to be featured? Send them to us. The great thing about this project is that we can cover the country and share your local flavor with the world. Tell us about it.

This is our history and we want you to share it with us. Tell us what’s going on, the topics you want to hear or the people you would like us to talk to.

Live Call In Show and Chat

Starting on Monday, October 19 at 10PM we will be hosting a live call in show. From a landline you can call 678-369-7943 or anywhere in the world by Skype to wesly.c.anderson. Espionage and Undercover

Today Butch and I take a look at the under workings of spies from the Civil War to World War II. It was not the subject planned but it took on a life of its own and we just went with it. Also find out if you have a very rare collector’s item. Find out how Parker Brothers help win WW II. Find out about Charleston’s Love-In during the 1700’s and a bunch more. History and fun is the subject for today!

We are also working on a way to have live callers for a special once or twice a month show with Butch and me . Let us know if this is something you would be interested in. - Would you call?

Don’t forget you can order your copy of the shows in higher quality than available on the web. And, by recent request we can also offer the interview section of the show only (without Cassie and I), we aim to please.

This Saturday we have guest Eric Hammel.

Butch and I are joined by Wrestling Legend and advocate of uncovering the fakes in the collecting  market Ric Savage.  You can visit Ric’s site Savage-Station for a more in-depth look into this area and see his column in American Digger Magazine in each issue.

Ric, talks about how he got started in uncovering the seedy side of collecting. Also, we get into what and why you should really collect anything. Butch also covers a large list of reference books that you need to have on hand.

All this poses and interesting question – How many millions of dollars are thrown out by Mom’s across America? And how many thousands of dollars did you willingly destroy as a kid?

It’s a Revolution and we are not talking about the Beetles! This past weekend I went on vacation and got to explore the Battlefields of Kings Mountain and Cowpens and get back to the part of history that  I am not so well versed in. I learned a lot and the learning did not stop when I got home. Butch knowing that I was off to seek adventure in the 1700’s pulled out a story for my return.

In our “In the Dirt with American Digger” segmet this week we learned:

The origins of the Hillbillies and/or Rednecks may not be what you expect. Join us and hear the true story. Also, you can take the Tours of the battlefields with me as I post the shots I took while on the road. I will post them on our Forum: http://ourhistoryproject.lefora.com/forum/

Folks, this week Butch and I did not solve the world’s problems or really made a difference in anyway. But, we did have a great time and you will learn a lot. From Relic Shows to Laundering Money to how much of a difference you make in Our History Project. It’s all there.

Take a drink of water before listening and this is one that driving while listening is not recommended. Be ready to laugh. Come on and spend 30 minutes with us you will not be disappointed with this one.

Oh, there is a giveaway on this one (The Illustrated Directory of The Old West, by William C. Davis) so listen and find out how you can win. A chance to win something and a good time, what more can you ask for?

OHP - On The Air

I want to thank Tim Weisberg, Mat Costa and Mat Moniz for inviting me on to Spooky Southcoast Radio WBSM 1420 Saturday night and letting me talk about Our History Project. We talked history but they have an awesome paranormal show if that is up your alley. Listen to the show Saturday’s 10-midnight, the station has an online stream of the show. This coming week they will be discussing the Bridgewater Triangle and the King Philip’s War.

This week we on Our History Project’s “In the Dirt with American Digger” segment we host what you would call the Beginners Guide to the Hobby of Metal Detecting. From the stores, to the machines, to the places to hunt. The contacts, groups, strategies and more, it’s all here.

So if you have ever had the question asked of you your asked just to yourself – “What do you find with that thing?” Or better yet –“How do I get me one?” Then this show is for them  - or you.

Our History Project is Nonprofit and open sourced, we promote Preservation and Education of our history, and as I have always said – “That starts with you!” – and in this show we will tell you how.

If you would like this show hosted by a player on your site or your business site send me an email and I will supply the code, it’s free. It will put a player on your page just like we have on ours (nothing to install and nothing goes on your server). If you would like I can even take off the opening comments (just let me know). The main goal of this episode is to promote our hobby in a positive light and give a basic foundation on which to grow. Bringing new blood into our world of research, history and preserving artifacts can only increase our understanding of the past.

Pass this show around folks!

Our History Project – “In the Dirt with American Digger” Wednesday

Our new format is going to put the “In the Dirt with American Digger” segment to be released on Wednesdays. This is a popular part of our program and well; I have a great time with Butch. There are many times when we ramble about the important part of relic and treasure hunting and times we just spend having a good time. This new format will allow time to be spent on the things that matter (information and how to’s) without the small time constraint we were on.

Most segments will still be 15-20 minutes in length but it will give us the additional time when needed, to go longer.

Enough of the Explanation! On with the Show!

This week we learn about “Bottle Hunting”! What it is, how to do it, what to look for, what tools to bring and the do-s and don’t-s.

This is something I have never tried but I know it is very popular in some circles and I do know that there are plenty of collectors out there. Come and join us as Butch introduces us to the sport (?) of “Bottle Hunting”.

This week we hear part 2 of King Philip’s War with guest and Film Maker Aaron Cadieux whose is working on the Documentary “The First Patriots”. Try as we may it is going to go 1 more week and finish with part 3. We will try not to do many of these continuations often, however since more than 95% of Americans know anything of this war we thought it was important to share this story.

A couple of things to note: King Philip was not English nor was he French, he in fact was the chief of the Wampanoag Indians and this war was also referred to as Metacom’s War or Metacom’s Rebellion. In this episode the war begins the atrocities begin as well, so parents you may want to listen first.

This has been a fascinating series and we thank Aaron Cadieux for giving his time and knowledge to us and sharing this piece of history.

On the lighter side Butch Holcombe with American Digger Magazine stopped by for some fun and a couple of stories and Cassie had some news about some legislation being passed and a first ever for our country.

Oh, get those Titles for our segment with American Digger in. Next week we will decide on a name for it. Keep in mind we are wanting a name for the segment only, the Show already has a name “Our History Project.” If your name for the segment is chosen you will get a 1 year subscription to American Digger. Good Luck!

-Craig
